It has been a long and agonizing wait, but Paul The Kid has touched down and finally dropped PTK1KP2:DEATH. Versatility is hard to find in music nowadays, artists find one sound that pops and run with it until it’s oversaturated. That is why I love Paul The Kid, he isn’t afraid to toy around and try with new sounds. The two parts of this mixtape represent Paul The Kid trying to find is best self or "1K" form. With part two in his EGO/DEATH series, we hear the Houston native tap into a more lyrical & sentimental side. While of course still delivering with the absolute bangers. The first two tracks really wake listeners up and are entertaining as ever. “Mosquito” is Paul The Kid swatting away all his demons and doubters, the horns along with some of Paul The Kid’s vocal inflections are just terrific. “Roses!” might be my favorite track on here, it is just so grimy and Paul The Kid entirely murks the instrumental and you hear the more lyrical side to the rapper. The psychedelic track “I TASTE FEAR!” is one of his best tracks he has ever released, it is both perseverance and self realization for Paul The Kid. “I TASTE FEAR!” serves as sort of a halfway point and the sonics completely shift to a more melodic Paul The Kid. I get mad Cudi vibes from the second half of part two. The last track “Okay! (in my element)” made me transcend, and is such an emotional closer to the mixtape series. After the past year and a half, its pleasing to hear a song like that. PTK1KP2: DEATH is short and sweet and completes this universe he has created. I’m very happy with part 2, I don’t see it leaving my rotation anytime in the near future. I highly recommend that y’all get in tune with what Paul The Kid got going on. He dropped the video for “I TASTE FEAR!” last week and y’all can check it out below. He about to be breaking even more barriers soon.
