There are an endless amount of ways that you can play your hand when it comes to creating music. Whether you’re the main vocalist, producer, video director, creative director, etc., you can play a role in releasing new music. Music is meant to unite and bring us together and Japanese producer Nigo’s upcoming album is another glorious example of that. I Know NIGO is becoming one of my most anticipated releases of 2022.
Nigo is a Japanese fashion designer and producer who was an original founder of popular clothing brand A Bathing Ape. The growth and popularity of Bape aided in catapulting Nigo’s music career. Nigo’s production style has heavy comparisons to modern day hip-hop and even some punk elements. This year, he is prepping to release his executive produced album I Know NIGO that will feature, Pharrell, Lil Uzi Vert, Tyler, The Creator and more.
On “Want It Bad”, Nigo taps the legend Kid Cudi. This is the song that you want to hear late at a nightclub. The dreamy synth mixed with the pounding 808s create the perfect scene for a late night trip. Kid Cudi’s vocals aren’t overpowered by the booming production and the instrumental falls perfectly into Cudi’s hands. Kid Cudi uses deliveries and flows derivative of Man On The Moon III, he mixes a nostalgic frequency with a new sound exceptionally well. The positivity from Kid Cudi is seeming through this track and it sounds so uplifting overall. In my opinion, Kid Cudi has had some of his best moments while rapping or singing over instrumentals like “Want It Bad”. Cudi’s dynamics are extraordinary and he knows how to tie his vocals into the build up of the beat.
