2021 has been jam packed with releases from many hip-hop entities. We’ve seen rappers from up and down the totem pole share new music, but J. Cole continues to stand out from majority of releases. For starters, his album The Off-Season hasn’t left my rotation, still as terrific as it was on the first listen. There is no rapper who can continuously sound as hungry as Cole J. Cole has also been doing features this year with rappers like Bas and most recently Joyner Lucas. “Heaven’s EP” is a remix of Drake’s “Pipe Down” from Certified Lover Boy. I know Cole was praising Drake on this song and Drake is a great but this is Cole’s song now. I wish Cole would rap over more soulful beats like this, even though his production choice on The Off-Season is my favorite that I’ve heard from him so far. “From this day forward I move with a new ferocity”, Cole continues to stay on his grind regardless of how successful he has become. The visual is simple but still works perfect for a remix. The music video catches Cole on in Las Vegas and traveling on a plane with an appearance from fellow Dreamville artist Bas.
