Ciggy Blacc - Kompa (Official Music Video)

Making his MusicToMyEarss debut, I have a pleasure of introducing a rapper that goes by the name of "Ciggy Blacc" . Ciggy Blacc has long been a pioneer in the Brooklyn Drill movement for a couple years now and has been on a mission to make his music global. Ciggy, who is from Flatbush, has been working hard to put Brooklyn on the map and has been rapping since he was a youngster, but hadn't taken it seriously. When he got home, he began rapping seriously and reconnected with boyhood buddies "MaxThaDemon" and "22gz", and the rest, as they say, is history. In late November 2019, he released his first album Dark Days, which introduced us to the power that is Ciggy Blacc. LowkeyMali reinterprets a genre that seldom receives that treatment on the single by slicing up the melodies, violins, and synths of a Haitian kompa tune. True to the genre, the beat is strong, and the vocals are secondary to the rhythm, however Brooklyn's Ciggy Blacc doesn't get lost in it. The portion of the beat that samples the dance breakdown is the best because it showcases how Ciggy has to push himself to stay up. I think the song reflects the most fascinating implementation of sample-driven drill. less rehashes of nostalgic successes and more reimaginings of cultural touchstones. Keep up with Ciggy as he continues to make a name for himself with his music going forward still putting on for Nyc.
